Family Fun this Summer

Join us this school holidays for an exciting range of hands-on activities for all ages and interests, usually on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Kicking off on Tuesday 26 July with INVERTEBRATE DAY, in the morning (2+ years) we will be going on a Big Bug Hunt in Sue Godfrey Nature Park and creating crafty masterpieces back at Creekside Discovery Centre. We will be joined throughout the day by leading entomologist Richard Jones, who will be training budding young scientists (9+ years) to catch and identify different invertebrate species during the afternoon.

If adventure and survival skills are your thing, join us on Thursday 28 July for SHIP WRECKED! Washed ashore at Deptford Creekside, you will build your own shelter, learn to light a fire safely and to forage for wild food. (7+ years)

Then it will be high time (but low tide) to get down into the creek on Tuesday 2 August for CRAB HUNTING. Equipped with waders, walking sticks and fishing nets, we will walk in the river in search of the Chinese Mitten Crab. (5+ years)

We will be on land again on Tuesday 9 August for WILD FLOWER POWER, a journey of botanical discovery, creating floral specimens and works of art to take home. Stay on afterwards for a picnic, and some extra time to admire the biodiversity of this unique site. (7+ years)

Let’s not forget that we have a beautiful pond here too! Come and explore it on Thursday 11 August with POND DIPPING AND GAMES. Children (3+ years) can meet the dragons, damsels, beetles and bugs who have made our pond their home.

On Tuesday 16 August we (7+ years) will be back in the creek again, not looking for crabs, but for artefacts left by humans over hundreds of years to make a MINI MUSEUM, telling the history of this fascinating corner of London.

Last but far from least, calling all 11 to 16 year olds for STEM SUMMER ACTIVITY DAY on Wednesday 17 August. This a fantastic opportunity for you to complete a British Science Association CREST Award; your chance to discuss how some of the problems we face right here in Deptford link to global issues. You will explore the relationship between engineering and environmental protection and learn how the environment can be protected by scientists and engineers.

Children must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult, except for the STEM Summer Activity Day.

We would like everyone to be able attend our activities and do not want the cost to be a barrier. If you can afford to pay the full price, please do. If you are a local resident and would find it difficult to pay the full price, please email us at education@creeksidecentre.org.uk and we will send you a local resident discount code.
