Working together for a healthier, nature-rich and climate-resilient Deptford Creek
Wild Tide is a Creekside Education Trust project bringing local people together to restore habitats, survey wildlife and help shape the future of Deptford Creek.
Deptford Creek is a rare urban intertidal habitat, rich in wildlife and full of potential. Through practical conservation, community science and accessible events, Wild Tide will create more opportunities for people to connect with this extraordinary place and take action for nature.
No previous experience is needed. Training is provided, activities are free, and everyone is welcome.
About the project
Working with volunteers, local communities and project partners, Wild Tide will restore and create intertidal and terrestrial habitats across three sites. Volunteers will also help survey fish, birds, plants and water quality, building a clearer picture of the Creek’s wildlife and environmental health.
Alongside this practical work, the project will create welcoming routes into nature for people who may not previously have felt represented or included in green and blue spaces. The evidence, experience and relationships developed through Wild Tide will inform a community-centred plan for the Creek’s long-term stewardship.
What Wild Tide will do
Restore habitats
We will improve intertidal and terrestrial habitats across three sites through practical, evidence-led conservation. This work will give local wildlife more places to feed, shelter and thrive.
Discover the Creek’s wildlife
Volunteers will take part in fish, bird, plant and water-quality surveys. Training will be provided, so you can contribute whether you are an experienced naturalist or completely new to community science.
Welcome more people to nature
Friendly, accessible Creekside events and targeted outreach will help more local residents experience the Creek, including people who have not previously felt represented or included in green and blue spaces.
Act together
The Deptford Creek Wildlife Taskforce will give local people practical ways to learn, contribute and care for the Creek alongside experienced staff.
Build a lasting legacy
Wild Tide combines action now with planning for the future. A community-centred plan will support the Creek’s long-term, financially sustainable stewardship and help create a cleaner, healthier and more resilient waterway for wildlife and people.
