Join us for a guided bird survey along Deptford Creek and help record the birdlife that calls this unique urban waterway home.
We’ll meet at Creekside Discovery Centre before walking along the southern end of the Creek, surveying from the land as we make our way north towards where the Creek meets the Thames.
Whether you’re an experienced birdwatcher or completely new to bird surveys, this is a friendly, relaxed way to get outdoors, learn new skills and discover wildlife right on your doorstep.
What to expect

A guided bird walk, stopping at fixed points to record birds we see and hear

Support with identifying birds visually and by birdsong

A chance to contribute to ongoing monitoring of the Creek’s bird populations
This session forms part of a regular programme of bird surveys, helping to track seasonal changes and build long-term knowledge of local wildlife. By taking part, you’ll also develop your own identification skills over time.
What to bring

If you have them, please bring binoculars and bird ID guides

A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow on the day

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable footwear
