August 27th, 9.30am-12.30pm

Join us to find out more about your local river.

Developing on our popular weekend walks, Creek Know-how features in-depth information about tides, the local historical context, and more. This activity aims to provide further opportunity for understanding the local area and to help people to interact with Deptford Creek more.

It includes a short presentation about tides and how the river has influenced the development of the locality, before we head into Deptford Creek for a 1-hour walk. There will be time for refreshments, questions, and discussion to finish. Suitable for ages 14+.

You will explore:

  • The local context and the changes in and around Deptford Creek over time
  • Interpreting and using tidal data, and gaining first hand experience of tidal rivers
  • Interacting safely with wild spaces by assessing and managing risk
  • Using first-hand observation to get to know wild spaces better

Part of this course is classroom based and part includes a river walk at low tide. Please wear outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather conditions on the day – we will provide light raincoats and waders for going into the Creek.
