NEW ONE DAY COURSE - JOIN OUR VOLUNTEER TEAM

Find out more about your river and its tides

Developed with our partners Tideway this course lets you learn about Deptford Creek and the tidal environment as you prepare to be an assistant volunteer low-tide walk guide with our team. Or you just want to learn!

We explore risk assessment and interpreting tidal data that will help you gain a fuller, practical understanding of the tidal river.

Delivered by experienced staff from our conservation and education teams, we explore how to safely interact with a wild river and what to consider before visiting a tidal area like the Thames and in particular Deptford Creek.

Creek Know-How is a one day introduction to the physical environment of Deptford Creek and the first step towards becoming an assistant volunteer low-tide guide.

This training course is suitable for anyone aged 14 or above who wants to learn more about:

• Their local environment

• Facilitating outdoor activities

• Interacting safely with wild spaces

• Assessing and managing risk

• Planning activities for groups of people

• Interpreting and using tidal data

• Volunteering with Creekside Discovery Centre

Young people do not need to be accompanied by an adult. The training course runs from 10am to 3pm, with breaks for refreshments and lunch. Light refreshments are provided, please bring lunch with you on the day. Please wear outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather conditions on the day – we will provide light raincoats and waders for going into the Creek.
