Bat Walk: Into the Creek - Thursday 22nd October 2026

October is one of the best times of year to survey bats. As they prepare for hibernation and enter their autumn mating season, many species become particularly active. This three-part series explores the diverse habitats of Deptford, from parks and churchyards to riverside landscapes and the intertidal creek itself.

Join us for a unique low tide bat survey in Deptford Creek.

Equipped with bat detectors, we will venture into the Creek at low tide to listen for and observe bats using the Creek and its surrounding habitats. This special survey offers a rare chance to get into Deptford Creek at low tide.

Along the way, we will explore:

• What bat species are present
• How bat-friendly these spaces are for roosting, breeding and feeding
• How bat detectors are used to identify bats

Training on the use of bat detectors will be provided, making this event suitable for beginners. Waders and mud sticks are provided, and guidance on using bat detectors will be given throughout the session.

Who can attend: Adults and children aged 12 and above. All under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Please note:

• This is a low tide walk within Deptford Creek
• Waders and mud sticks are provided
• Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to allow time for fitting waders and attending the safety briefing
• Participants should be comfortable walking on uneven, muddy terrain
