We host informal volunteer tours/inductions twice every month on Fridays, 3-4pm - please get in touch to find out the next available slots!

Volunteering is a key part of what we do. We aim to provide opportunities for people to connect with nature and work as part of a lively and enthusiastic team. Volunteers are essential for us to achieve our aims of conservation and education. If you are interested in practical outdoor work, interacting with and assisting others to learn about the natural environment, whilst gaining new knowledge and skills, then we have opportunities for you!

Low Tide Walk Volunteer - actively recruiting! (mostly weekends, and occasional weekdays)

We are running an in-person induction for new Low Tide Walk volunteers on Saturday 20th June 2026, sign up here - Low Tide Walk volunteer induction/refresher – Fill in form
Each year at Creekside we run around 25 public Low Tide Walk events. These are aimed towards adults but which can be attended by anyone aged 8+. They are very popular activities and are a great way for members of our community to learn more about Deptford Creek and the wider natural environment, and the work we do to protect it.
Low Tide Walk Volunteers help with the delivery of these events, which are usually held on weekends. In the summer and over school holiday breaks we also host additional events in the evenings and weekdays.
Volunteering at these events will involve everything from getting your hands dirty helping people pulling on and off waders to chatting with our visitors and helping them before, during and after the event.

Low Tide Walk Volunteer Role Description

Learning Team Volunteer (weekdays)

Our Learning Team deliver educational activities for thousands of school children from London and beyond each year. These sessions are incredibly well received with a large proportion of school bookings being repeat visitors.
Learning Team Volunteers assist in the delivery of educational sessions. The vast majority of opportunities will be on weekdays and we do ask for a commitment of full day volunteering, from 09.30-15.00 if possible.
Volunteering for an education session will include preparing and setting up resources and equipment, circulating during activities and interacting with the students, and getting stuck in with group activities in Deptford Creek and around the Centre.

Learning Team Volunteer Role Description

Conservation Volunteer - Limited capacity, please email before completing application. (weekdays - Wednesdays)

Our Conservation Team manage the Creekside site and Sue Godfrey Nature Park and other wild spaces in the local area. The Creekside site is one of the most biodiverse wildflower habitats for its size in London.
Practical Conservation Volunteers are essential in maintaining the quality and diversity of this habitat. We host conservation volunteering sessions on Wednesdays, and volunteers can come along for the morning, afternoon, or both.
Volunteering for this activity will involve physical work removing invasive species, cutting and managing existing plants, as well as other seasonal tasks.
