Here are some of the sessions we offer:
Ecology
Classification, food chains and energy flow; habitats, adaptation
to river life and the management of the Creek.
Geography
The water cycle, the dynamic structure of the river, how humans
have changed the Creek, river features and land use around the Creek.
'River for life'
Investigation with a purpose. We are using the data collected by
visiting groups to expand our knowledge of the Creek. This data
is being shared London wide to build up an evolving picture of the
Thames' ecosystem.
ITC
We are also pioneering the use of ITC in outdoor activities including
the use of dataloggers, computer microscopes, laptops, digital cameras
and online information resources etc. These will enhance the value
of your visit and will support further learning.
PSHE and Citizenship
We can help you meet these important areas of the curriculum in the
following ways:
Caring for the Creek
An excting mix of practice and theory split between a hands on clean
up session followed by a discussion of how humans impact on the
Creek.
Creek Walks
These exciting mini-adventures are a great way of helping students
gain confidence and learn how to act safely in challenging environments.
We can run Creek walks for all groups including those with special
needs and on vocational training schemes.
Art and Creativity
The Creek is a rich source of inspiration. Its haunted decaying
atmosphere and wealth of nature provides excellent starting points
for all forms of expression. Whether your group is studying photography,
painting, sculpture etc, why not bring them along for a unique imaginative
adventure.
What support can you provide after the visit?
We are supporting extension work by developing 'follow
up' ideas, selling Creek publications, posters and through our website.
